Dear all,
The CAMAC (Caribbean Marine Megafauna and Anthropogenic Activities, 2023-2027) project aims to strengthen cooperation, capacity and knowledge, in order to provide Caribbean decision-makers and environmental stakeholders with tools and recommendations to reduce the impacts of human activities on large marine megafauna in the region. The project will be carried out in an area comprising all the EEZs of the Lesser Antilles, but also, to the west, those of the Dominican Republic, Haiti and Jamaica, and to the south-east the EEZs of the countries and territories of the Guyana and Costa Rica.
CAMAC is organized into four work packages, one of which aims to assess the socio-economic and environmental issues related to the interactions between marine megafauna and fishing, in collaboration with Caribbean fishing organizations (WP1).
The Agoa Sanctuary - OFB is the lead organization and the SPAW RAC, regional activity center for the SPAW protocol of the Cartagena Convention, is the leader on this first work package of the project.
The project is organized in two phases :
Phase 1 (2023) focused on reviewing available information and data, developing collaborations with stakeholders in the region, and defining protocols and needs for Phase 2.
Phase 2 (2025-2027) is dedicated to the implementation of the protocols defined during phase 1, in collaboration with the identified partners.
As part of phase 2 of CAMAC, the SPAW RAC is conducting a public contract process for intellectual services in order to find a service provider who can provide assistance with :
1) Identifying the pre-selected sites at the end of phase 1 of the CAMAC project and the feasibility of the surveys ;
2) Mobilize the partners and stakeholders of the identified sites to carry out the surveys ;
3) Define the survey protocol with fishermen to collect information for the ByRA tool, among other things ;
4) Validate the survey protocol by ensuring its technical and scientific consistency and its feasibility within the identified sites and with the mobilized stakeholders.
The service will begin as soon as notification of the contract award is given and will last for a maximum of four months.
The deliverables must be finalized by August 10, 2025, at the latest.
