The LifeWeb project was implemented in 2010 for two and a half years by UNEP with funding from the Government of Spain, with the aim of helping the countries of the Greater Caribbean Region to implement multidisciplinary and ecosystem-based management of threats to marine mammals.
The results of this project include a mapping of critical marine mammal habitats and migration routes at the regional scale, crossed with socio-economic information on human activities (live and dead catches, fishing effort, maritime traffic, pollution, coastal development).
The maps are available on the SPAW RAC web application (under preparation)
All the pdf maps were prepared and produced by GRID-Arendal (Jean-Nicolas POUSSART), with the help, for the distribution and species richness maps, of the Whales and Dolphins Conservation Society (Kristin KASCHNER) and of experts solicited by Dr. Randall REEVES.
To date, the lifeweb project is the most complete regional study. The maps and reports are available for download in pdf format below.
